We have created this blog to help you and your school to take full advantage of the opportunity to partner with a Sister School in Mexico located in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (a World Heritage Site). This is the place where U.S. schools that have a Sister School partner can share information about their experiences and anyone can post questions and ideas. Indeed, the ‘Cultural Exchange’ component of the Monarch Sister Schools is one of its most unique features, which teachers can use to stimulate interest in everything ranging from the customs, language, history and geography of Mexico to the fascinating migration of the Monarch each year to Mexico.
On the ‘Events & News’ page, you will find a feature on Leona Vicario Rural Primary School, the first of our Sister Schools which is partnering with New Hampshire Estates Elementary School of Silver Spring, MD. Their relationship began with an exchange of letters and photos. Leona Vicario hopes soon to have an internet connection that will permit the use of Skype for (same grade level) classes at the two schools to visit with one another. Also, this school year, the two schools plan to do begin a joint project to create a tree nursery at Leona Vicario to produce baby trees to plant to help restore part of the forest where the Monarchs spend the winter.
