Enrollment

Team

We strongly recommend that each school that plans to participate in the Program put together a “Monarch Team”, headed by a lead teacher, which includes at least two other teachers, a school administrator (e.g., principal or assistant principal), and a PTA representative.

Enrollment Benefits

When your school enrolls, your Team will be invited to attend a two-hour Introductory Workshop (usually held after school in mid fall). Also, your school will receive a copy of the Program Resource Guide and a copy of "Monarch and More" with more than 60 lesson plans. Both the workshop and the Resource Guide cover the major features of the Monarch Sister School Program, including:

  • Background on the Monarch (life cycle, habitat and migration) & habitat destruction.
  • Information on available lesson plans & their integration into your science curriculum.
  • Planning and planting a Monarch Garden and its use as an outdoor classroom.
  • Joining the Sister Schools Network - to begin a relationship with a school in Mexico.
  • Participation in a winter habitat protection or restoration project in Mexico.
  • Additional “learning arenas” including web resources like Monarch Live and eco-tours.
  • “Fun-raisers” – fun ways to help fund your project activities.

Enrollment Fee

The enrollment fee is just $175 per school (first year); $125 (subsequent yrs).
